Foreign Minister to meet with new U.S. and Russian ambassadors to Latvia

On 13 February Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will receive Charles William Larson, Jr., the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the U.S. to Latvia. Similarly as part of a series of accreditation visits, Alexander Veshnyakov, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Latvia, will call on the Foreign Minister on 13 February.     

At the meeting with Charles Larson, it is planned to discuss future bilateral and multilateral co-operation in security policy, promotion of democracy in the EU neighbourhood region, as well as maintaining and broadening of day-to-day political and economic dialogue.    

During the meeting with Alexander Veshnyakov, both parties will address possibilities for enhancement of practical and economic co-operation, current inter-governmental draft agreements, as well as the future development of constructive co-operation, both bilaterally and in a multilateral format. 

The new U.S. and Russian ambassadors presented their letters of credence to President Valdis Zatlers on 12 February, thus officially taking up their functions.
