Aija Zarina art exhibition opened in Prague

With the support of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 6 February an exhibition of the latest work of the Latvian artist Aija Zarina was opened in Prague at the museum of contemporary art Museum Kampa. The initiator of the exhibition is the Latvian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Argita Daudze. Paintings for the exhibition were chosen in Riga by the Czech patroness of art Meda Mladek, but  the project was implemented by curator Elita Ansone, working with the staff of the Museum Kampa.

The Latvian Ambassador  noted that as an outstanding cultural event in Prague, the exhibition  marks the beginning of the year of the 90th anniversary of the Latvian state.

At  the opening  speeches were given by the founder of the Museum Kampa Meda Mladek, the artist Aija Zariņa, the Latvian Ambassador  Argita Daudze, the  Mayor of Prague 1 Petr Hejma, Director of the Latvian National Museum of Fine Art Māra Lāce and curator of the exhibition Elita Ansone.

In her address the artist Aija Zarina emphasised the great significance of culture and art in the preservation of international values, and that  it was an honour to participate in this mission.

Among the many visitors attending the exhibition were representatives of the arts, the diplomatic corps and other important circles.

In honour of the exhibition a catalogue has been published with the support of Rietumu Banka..

The exhibition will be on display at the Museum Kampa until 23 March.

The  Museum Kampa is located near the Charles Bridge and is noteworthy in that its founder, the prominent patroness of the arts Meda Mladek, when forming the collection has paid special attention  to the contemporary art of Central Europe and its popularisaton. Along with the permanent exposition of the museum, exhibitions of individual artists are regularly organised, for example, Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono and Joseph Beuys.
