Foreign Minister to meet with new chairman of World Federation of Free Latvians
On 11 February, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will meet with Martins Sausins, the newly elected chairman of the board of the World Federation of Free Latvians (WFFL). The agenda of the meeting will focus on the activities of the Latvian diaspora and possible future co-operation.
According to the Minister, the obligingness of Latvians abroad and their active support is of great significance to the fulfilment of Latvia's foreign policy objectives. The Foreign Ministry is interested in continuing close co-operation with Latvians overseas.
The WFFL commenced operation in 1956, whilst its first face-to-face session took place in 1972 in Washington. In its early years, the organisation was named the Latvian Federation of the Free World.
