Winner selected in competition for commemorative marker dedicated to first foreign minister

07 Feb 2008

On 6 February, the winner was selected in a competition for the conceptual design of a commemorative marker to Zigfrids Anna Meierovics, first Foreign Minister of Latvia. The commission unanimously selected the concept created by Ivars Drulle as the most suitable design for a commemorative marker. The concept is based on the minister's signature, which is a symbolic acknowledgement of the significance of personality in decisive historical moments. It also bears special testimony to the role of Meierovics in the consolidation of sovereignty of the State of Latvia.

The aim of the concept competition held by the Foreign Ministry was to identify the most suitable contemporary interpretation in the development of a commemorative marker to Zigfrids Anna Meierovics. The plaque will be displayed in the central assembly hall on the ground floor of the Ministry building, which is intended to be developed as a memorial hall named after the first Foreign Minister of Latvia.

Young artists under 35 years of age were invited to take part in the competition.

The winner will be offered a opportunity to sign a contract with the Ministry on the implementation of the concept design. The contract price will be determined by mutual agreement.
