State Secretary to launch touring exhibition The History of the State of Latvia in Cartoons
On 29 April at 4pm, in the Foreign Ministry Entrance Hall, the Ministry's State Secretary Normans Penke will launch a touring exhibition of the National Library of Latvia The History of the State of Latvia in Cartoons.
The exhibition encompasses the history of the Republic of Latvia from its foundation in 1918 to nowadays, and highlights the most significant events of each decade as reflected in the cartoons published by the Latvian media of the respective period. This is an unusual and slightly ironic viewpoint of the history of the state and its political events from the perspective of 38 Latvian artists and their 105 cartoons, supplemented by explanatory information.
The exhibition was prepared in honour of the 90th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia and was created by the National Library of Latvia in association with the Foreign Ministry and the Latvian newspaper Diena.
On the initiative of the Latvian Embassy in the Netherlands, this display was first housed at the National Library of the Netherlands at the end of 2007. Later this year the cities of Oulu in Finland, Gothenburg in Sweden, and Prague in the Czech Republic will also host the exhibition.
The History of the State of Latvia in Cartoons will be on show at the Foreign Ministry from 30 April to 30 May. Visitors are requested to register their visit by telephone 67015984.
