On 24 April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs starts the accreditation of media representatives for the 7th Summit of the Council of the Baltic Sea States Heads of Government, gathering together prime ministers of 11 countries (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden) to deliberate on the region's future and on the reform of the Council of the Baltic Sea States.
Media representatives who wish to report on the summit are requested to apply for accreditation by 20 May, by submitting a completed accreditation form with an attached photograph electronically, to media@mfa.gov.lv

The summit will conclude Latvia's Presidency in the Council of the Baltic Sea states, lasting from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008. After Latvia, Denmark is to take over the Presidency.
During the term of its Presidency, Latvia put forward regional competitiveness and sustainable development as the principal objectives for regional co-operation, and these also form the background for the main priorities of Latvia's Presidency: education, energy and civil security.
During the presidency, the touring project Balticness has been taking place, promoting the forging of a common regional identity by means of discussions, jazz music and a photography exhibition.
