Latvian representative participates in ASEF Board of Governors annual meeting in Indonesia
Einars Semanis, the Latvian representative at the Board of Governors of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), from 22 to 24 April is taking part in the ASEF annual working meeting in Bali, Indonesia. The meeting is held in order to analyse the foundation's achievements over the last year and to approve new projects.
The ASEF was established on 15 February 1997 and is the only institutional instrument of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) aimed at promoting cultural, intellectual, and humanitarian contacts between Asia and Europe, by organising conferences, seminars, and lectures. Documentaries on Asia-Europe co-operation are made and the Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) is maintained with the support of the ASEF. The Latvian Museum of Foreign Art also participates in the network.
Einars Semanis has been the governor of Latvia at the ASEF since October 2007. The previous ASEF governor of Latvia was Rihards Piks.
The foundation comprises 45 states: 27 EU member states and 18 states of South East Asia.
As part of his visit, Einars Semanis on 20 April opened a Latvian Honorary Consulate in Bandung and on 21 April met with Imron Cotan, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to discuss issues of bilateral co-operation. On 21 April, Mr Semanis visited the Latvian Honorary Consulate in Jakarta and met with Retno Sulistyaningsih, the Director of the Indonesian National Museum, to talk about possible co-operation with the Latvian Museum of Foreign Art under an ASEF project involving museum experts.
