Foreign Minister to talk with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister about sectoral institution co-operation

Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins on 24 April will meet with Elmar Mammadyarov, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, in order to discuss the development of bilateral relations between Latvia and Azerbaijan, including collaboration between sectoral institutions.

During the meeting, both sides will consider possible broadening of the legal framework between the two states. The ministers are also expected to touch upon the future of Latvia-Azerbaijan economic relations.  

Minister Mammadyarov will be on an official visit to Latvia from 23 to 24 April and is anticipated to meet with Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis, Gundars Daudze, the Speaker of the Saeima, and Andris Berzins, Chair of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee. The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister will also visit the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia and will lay flowers at the Freedom Monument.

On 24 April at 10am, in Room 309 (2^nd floor) of the Ministry a photo and video opportunity has been scheduled, prior to the commencement of the talks between Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins and Elmar Mammadyarov, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan.

From 10.50 am to 11.10 am a joint press conference will be given by the Foreign Minister and the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan. The press conference will be held in Latvian, with simultaneous translation into English.
