Regulations Regarding Performance of Notary Functions in Diplomatic and Consular Representations of the Republic of Latvia adopted

21 Apr 2008

The Cabinet of Ministers on 21 April approved draft regulations Regulations Regarding Performance of Notary Functions in Diplomatic and Consular Representations of the Republic of Latvia.

The regulations provide for the procedure of carrying out notary functions in Latvian diplomatic and consular missions, stipulating that only certain notary functions will be performed in missions for the reason that consular officials are not sworn notaries. According to the regulations, consular officials fulfil the following functions: confer authorisation and certifications, issue extracts from the Notarial Deed Book and the Register of Deeds and Certifications, confirm authenticity of signatures, confirm that a person is alive, notarise copies and translations, verify time of document presentation; notarise revocation of authorisation and the submission of notifications.

The regulations will enter into force with their publication in the official gazette of Latvia Latvijas Vestnesis.
