Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins invites journalists to a press conference at the Foreign Ministry on 2 June at 12.00 about the current news and events in relation to the summit of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), which is due to take place on 3 and 4 June in Riga.
At the press conference, Minister Riekstins will inform journalists about the programme of the CBSS meeting of the heads of government, and about other events related to the summit. Mr Riekstins will unveil the accomplishments of the Latvian presidency of the CBSS, pursuing the priorities it has defined, including education, energy, and civil security, and in this way promoting the competitiveness of the Baltic Sea Region.
Latvia has been fulfilling the duties of the presiding state of the CBSS since July 2007. On 1 July Denmark will take over the CBSS presidency.
The CBSS, which was established on 5 March 1992, is a regional inter-governmental political co-operation forum. The CBSS is made up of 11 states of the Baltic Sea Region – Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, and Russia. The European Commission is also represented at the organisation's meetings.
