On 2 June 2008, a round-table discussion Thinking Regionally, Acting Globally - Creating a Brand Image for the Baltic Sea will take place in Riga, at the Hansabanka building (1a Balasta dambis, 25th Floor) at 9.30 am
The following issues will be debated at the event: what kind of added value could branding bring to the region, what makes the Baltic Sea Region unique in the world, what could the regional brand consist of, what are the strengths and weaknesses in terms of attracting investments and tourists, and other issues.
The aim of the event is, by bringing together policymakers, academics, and the private sector of the Baltic Sea Region, to stimulate a fruitful regional-level discussion on the above issues.
The discussion will be chaired by the Director of the Latvian Institute, Ojars Kalnins. The participants will include Marcus Andersson, company Geobrands representative and author of the article Region branding: the case of the Baltic Sea Region; Esa Kokkonen, Director of the Baltic Institute of Finland (Finland); Marianne Lehtimaki, Co-ordinator of the Baltic Sea Monitoring Group on Heritage Co-operation (Finland); Carsten Schymik, Co-ordinator, BalticStudyNet, Humboldt University (Germany); Elise Kvarnstrom, EU Relations Manager, ScanBalt (Denmark); Erki Peegel, Director, Marketing and Communication Unit, Enterprise Estonia (Estonia); Brian Valbjørn Sørensen, The Marketing Denmark Fund (Denmark); Uldis Vitolins, Director, Tourism Development State Agency (Latvia); Laurynas Bucalis, Director of the Communication Department, Government of Lithuania (Lithuania); and Anders Bjornsson, Cultural Tourism Institute (Sweden).

The event is taking place as part of the Latvian Presidency in the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the travelling project Balticness, and is organised by the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in co-operation with the Latvian Institute.
