On 15 May the Republic of Latvia established diplomatic relations with Barbados.
A protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations was signed in Lima, Peru, during the the 5th EU, Latin America, and the Caribbean Summit of Heads of State and Government.
A joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations was signed from the Latvian side by Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary of State Edgars Skuja, and from the Barbadian side by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and International Business Christopher Sinckler.
Barbados is an island state in the Caribbean and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. It has been an independent state since 1966.
