Latvia-Russia future co-operation to be discussed at Foreign Ministry with Russian representatives [02 Jun 2008]

Meetings with Vladimir Titov, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, are scheduled to take place at the Foreign Ministry on 3 June. Deputy Minister Titov will arrive in Riga to participate in the Summit of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) as a member of the Russian delegation.   

During the visit, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister is expected to have talks with Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins and State Secretary Normans Penke.

The officials will exchange views on the future development of bilateral political dialogue, practical co-operation, and the progress of preparations for a possible visit to Russia by President Valdis Zatlers. The sides will debate the previous work of the Latvia-Russia Inter-governmental Commission, its priority issues, and the sessions still due to be held this year.   

During the meetings, the officials will review a possible broadening of the bilateral legal framework, the course of the ratification of agreements signed in 2007, as well as the possible signing of agreements currently being drafted.
