On 5 June Andre-Jean Libourel, the French Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Latvia, is to meet Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins on a farewell visit.

The Latvian Foreign Minister and the Ambassador plan to review the key co-operation projects carried out during Mr Libourel's term in office and to share opinions on the future advance of bilateral relations. The officials are also expected to talk about the main areas of action proposed by the French government for its presidency at the EU in the second half of 2008, and about other topics of international politics. Attention will also be accorded to formats of regional collaboration and their role in Europe.

Latvia and France are linked by an active political, economic, and cultural dialogue. As part of Ambassador Libourel's term in office, numerous high-level visits to Latvia by French statesmen and official calls to the French Republic by Latvian representatives have taken place. During a visit by French Prime Minister Francois Fillon, a Political Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Latvia and France was signed on 23 May.

Andre-Jean Libourel was accredited as the French Ambassador to Latvia on 31 January 2006.
