On 1 September Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will take part in an extraordinary meeting of the European Council, convened by President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, the presiding EU Member State. The aim of this session is to debate the situation in Georgia, as well as future relations between the EU and Russia. The Latvian delegation will be led by Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis.
