On 26 August, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins is to meet with the Canadian Ambassador to Latvia, Scott Heatherington, as part of a series of accreditation visits.
It is anticipated that in the course of the meeting, the parties will review the situation in Georgia and in Afghanistan. Minister Riekstins will also hear from the new Ambassador about the activities planned during his time in office in Latvia.
Up until now Ambassador Heatherington has worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada, and has also held various positions in the Canadian embassies in Germany, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Thailand, Moscow and Hong Kong. This is his first appointment as Ambassador.
The Ambassador speaks English, French, German and Russian and has also started to learn the Latvian language.
The accreditation visit of Ambassador Heatherington to President Valdis Zatlers of Latvia has been scheduled for 2 September.
