On 18 August, as one of his accreditation visits, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Latvia, Mats Arne Staffansson, called on Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins.

At the meeting, both sides noted the active political dialogue between Latvia and Sweden and also reviewed relations between the two countries in the fields of culture, economy, and finance.

During the conversation Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins drew the Ambassador's attention to the close co-operation of both countries within various regional formats, focusing on the co-operation within the Council of the Baltic Sea States, and also in other Baltic-Nordic co-operation formats (NB-6, NB-8, and the Nordic Council of Ministers).

The sides discussed the current situation in Georgia and emphasised the role of the European Union and NATO in the stabilisation of the situation.

The Ambassador of Sweden also extended greetings to Minister Riekstins from the Swedish Prime Minister, Carl Bildt.
