On 18 August, the Ambassadors of Germany, China and Sweden will call on the Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins.
At the meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Detlef Weigel, it is planned to review the prospects of bilateral relations between Latvia and Germany, as well as the priorities of the EU's French Presidency and current issues of international policy. Until now, Ambassador Weigel has worked as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Germany in Madrid, and has also held various positions in embassies in Paris and Kingston, at the office of the Federal Chancellor and at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
The People's Republic of China has appointed Cheng Wenju as Ambassador to Latvia. Until now, Ambassador Chang Wenju fulfilled duties as Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Sierra Leone. During the meeting, it is anticipated to discuss the dynamics of Latvia-China bilateral relations, with a particular focus on economic co-operation, especially in the areas of transport, transit and logistics.
Mats Arne Staffansson becomes the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Latvia. Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins and the Ambassador are to discuss bilateral relations, as well as co-operation within the Baltic Sea Region. Ambassador Staffanson has worked at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Russia, and as Ambassador to Poland and Yugoslavia.
