Students from Bremen visit Latvian Foreign Ministry
On 28 February 2007, 17 social science students from the University of Bremen visited the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to their visit, two of the students had made a closer analysis of the situation in Latvia.
During their visit, the students were acquainted with the history of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, latest developments in relations between Latvia and Russia, and Latvia's co-ordination of the EU policy.
The students were interested to learn about Latvia's support for the democratisation process in Belarus; the Latvia-Russia "sprat war"; the signing of the border treaty with Russia; the influence of the Russian minority in Latvia on the agenda of Latvia-Russia relations; and whether Latvia's position with regard to Russia had changed after Latvia's accession to the European Union. The students also asked questions about the work of the Latvian foreign service.
The Foreign Ministry has an open door policy and welcomes all interested students and school children from Latvian and foreign secondary and higher educational establishments. The interested persons are invited to register with the Foreign Ministry Public Relations Division by e-mailing media@mfa.gov.lv at least one month in advance.
