Embassy in Warsaw hosts readings on history of Latvian – Polish relations
On 27 March 2007, the Latvian Embassy in Poland presented public readings on Latvian-Polish Relations in the XX Century. Eriks Jekabsons from the University of Latvia, who was the author of the presentation, dealt with topical issues in the history of both nations, which are still stirring interest not only among researchers, but also among wider public.
The event took place at the centre of Lithuanian culture in Warsaw. The Latvian Ambassador, Alberts Sarkanis, emphasized that both the topic and the venue of the event were in a way symbolic – through the distance of time to look back at the mutual relations in the Baltic region during the period of the XX century between the wars. The event itself and the interest of Polish institutions, academics, diplomats and other parties interested in the Baltic subject offers hope for future co-operation and discussions among scholars and students of both countries.
On 26 March, Eriks Jekabsons delivered a lecture on Latvian-Polish Relations in 1919-1920 at the Central and Eastern Europe Club of Warsaw University.
