Latvia and Israel sign Programme on Co-operation in Culture, Education and Science for 2007-2010
On 12-13 March 2007, the Programme on Co-operation in the Fields of Culture, Education and Science for 2007-2010 was signed between Latvia and Israel in Jerusalem.
For the Latvian side, the document was signed by the Under-Secretary of State of the Latvian Ministry of Culture, Uldis Lielpeters. Israel was represented by Mr Arthur Avnon, the Israeli Foreign Ministry Deputy Director-General for Cultural and Scientific Affairs.
Both parties praised the successful co-operation in the fulfilment of the previous programme of co-operation in the culture, education and scientific sectors, and agreed on forms of co-operation and particular projects for 2007-2010.
The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the State of Israel on Co-operation in the Fields of Education, Culture and Science was signed on 27 February 1994. The first co-operation programme under the agreement was adopted in 1998, and is regularly updated at the joint sessions of the intergovernmental committee, held every alternate year in Riga and Jerusalem.
On 13 March, during a visit to the Latvian Embassy in Tel Aviv, the officials agreed to enhance co-operation between Latvia and Israel in the areas of history, history of culture and education.
The delegation included the Latvian Ambassador to Israel, Karlis Eihenbaums, and representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Radio and Television Council, and from the Latvian Embassy in Israel.
