Latvian Ambassador to Canada to present the Order of Three Stars to Imants Ramins

27 Apr 2007

On 28 April 2007 in Toronto, the Latvian Ambassador to Canada, Atis Sjanits, will present the Order of Three Stars to Imants Ramins, a well-known Canadian composer and conductor of Latvian origin.

The awarding ceremony will take place at a symbolic moment - at the concert in which the composer's new composition "Under the Baltic Sun" will be premiered. The composition will be performed by a joint Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian and Finnish choir, thus demonstrating the close ties between the communities of the Baltic and Nordic countries and strengthening co-operation between countries of the region in Canada.

The concert is being organised jointly by the Toronto Latvian choir "Dzirksts", the Estonian choir "Estonia Koor", the Lithuanian choir "Volungè", and the Finnish choir "Vox Finlandiae". Supporters of the concert also include the Latvian Embassy in Canada. In the evening, the singers will gather for a dinner at the Toronto Latvian Centre.
