On 16 December 2006, the parliamentary secretary of the Foreign Ministry, Eriks Zunda, is to participate in the meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers in Vilnius, in which he will advise on the priorities of the Latvian Presidency of the Baltic Council of Ministers in 2007 and on the key measures.  The Lithuanian Foreign Minister Petras Vaitekunas will report on the results of 2006.

As part of the meeting, a separate meeting for representatives of the Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian foreign ministries will also be held.

At present, the most significant issues of co-operation among the Baltic states are development of the common energy strategy, accession to the Schengen space, and development of transport infrastructure projects Via Baltica and Rail Baltica.

This year the Presidency of the Baltic Council of Ministers and the Baltic Assembly is being held by Lithuania.
