Saudi Arabia expresses interest in developing relations with the Baltic states [15 Dec 2006] |

On 14 December 2006, as part of her visit to Saudi Arabia, the Latvian Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Baiba Braze, met with the Director of the European Union Department of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prince Mohammed Faisal Turki. At the meeting, both sides discussed bilateral relations between Latvia and Saudi Arabia and current developments in the Gulf Region. Prince Mohammed Faisal Turki noted the significance of building relations with all the EU member states and emphasized Saudi Arabia's interest in developing relations with the Baltic states with whom diplomatic relations were established only in 2003. The Saudi Arabian Prince praised Latvia's economic growth and inquired of domestic and foreign policy developments in Latvia. The Prince expressed his wish to visit Latvia. Prince Mohammed Faisal Turki emphasized the necessity of a common EU foreign policy and more active involvement in the regional events. The discussion also dealt with the current issues of co-operation between the European Union and the Gulf Co-operation Council. (end of text) | |||||
