Latvian Embassy in the U.S. hosts reception in honour Latvian National Opera guest concerts in Mexico [15 Dec 2006]

The Latvian Embassy in the U.S., in conjunction with the Honorary-Consul to Mexico, Beatrise Aboltina-Trueblood, hosted a reception in honour of guest concerts by the Latvian National Opera (LNO) in Mexico.

The LNO visited Mexico following an invitation from the concert agency ArsTempo producciones. The Latvian musicians gave four concerts of opera music, performing popular choirs and arias. The LNO was represented by soloists: Kristine Gailite, Sonora Vaice, Kristine Opolais, Antra Bigaca, Samsons Izjumovs, Emils Ivanovs, Egils Silins and Viesturs Jansons; with the choir and orchestra conducted by Martins Ozolins.

From 9 to 14 December, a visit to Mexico by a delegation led by the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Culture, Solvita Zvidrina, also took place. As part of the visit, they met with the heads of the Mexican Department of Culture, the National Art Centre and a number of museums. The topics discussed with Mexican representatives included issues of further co-operation within the framework of the agreement on co-operation in the sphere of education, culture and sports signed between the countries. The delegation also attended the LNO concert in Mexico.
