From 17 to 19 October 2005, György Frunda, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly's Monitoring Committee is staying in Latvia. Mr. Frunda's visit is a part of the Assembly's post-monitoring dialogue with Latvia and its purpose is to establish whether Latvia is successfully fulfilling the commitments it undertook upon joining the Council of Europe.
Mr. György Frunda will meet the high-ranking officials of the country and Saeima members. His schedule includes visits to minority schools and meetings with leaders of minority groups and representatives of non-governmental organisations.
The post-monitoring dialogue was commenced in January 2001, when the monitoring procedure of the Council of Europe or monitoring of the commitments of Latvia as a member state was closed.
