On 5-6 July 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will be on an official visit in Romania. During the visit, the Latvian Foreign Minister will meet with the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodor-Viorel Meleşcanu.
The officials intend to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation between Latvia and Romania, topics of high relevance for the European Union, and security policy issues.
The Foreign Ministers of both countries will also jointly launch a publication entitled “History of Latvia” in the Romanian language, prepared by Latvian and Romanian historians.
The visit of the Latvian Foreign Minister to Romania has a symbolic significance: it takes place in a year when both states are celebrating their centenaries. In 2018, Romania is celebrating 100 years since the unification of the state.
