On 15 December at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Ministry’s State Secretary Andrejs Pildegovičs, the Head of the European Commission in Latvia, Inna Šteinbuka, and the Head of the European Parliament Information Office in Latvia, Marta Rībele, signed a Declaration on cooperation in the communication of European Union matters in 2018.
During the signing, Andrejs Pildegovičs highly appreciated the broad spectrum of events coming up next year. The officials present recognised that 2018 is of special significance for European citizens. With preparations under way for the elections to the European Parliament, restoring links and sustaining a dialogue with the public are of key importance. When engaging with the public, a common understanding on the benefits from the EU should be fostered through explaining the decision-making process and facilitating a discussion on Europe’s future.
As Latvia’s centennial is celebrated in 2018, the European Commission Representation, the European Parliament Information Office in Latvia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly with their cooperation partners will arrange a number of high level international conferences and exhibitions dedicated to Europe-related topics, invite people across Latvia to discussions held in the regions, disseminate informative publications, and encourage young people to participate in special youth events in schools and universities.
A declaration on cooperation in the EU communication is being signed for the fourth consecutive year.
