On 13 November, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs will take part in the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
At the meeting, the Foreign Ministers will discuss Africa-EU relations ahead of the 5th African Union – EU Summit, taking place on 29-30 November in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
Next, the Ministers intend to exchange views on EU strategic communications, for instance, in order to support the development of new initiatives in public diplomacy and to continue strengthening the existing instruments.
The Foreign Ministers will have a joint working session with EU Defence Ministers to review the course of implementation of the EU Global Strategy in foreign policy and security policy with the focus on a number of initiatives in the field of Common Defence and Security Policy.
The Council meeting will see the signing of the notification letter on the establishment of the Permanent Structured Cooperation in security and defence (PESCO). Latvia will also sign the notification.
The meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council take place on a monthly basis and are chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.
