State Secretary offers thanks to Slovenia for its engagement in strengthening the region’s security

On 11 September, the State Secretary of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, Andrejs Pildegovičs, met with the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovenia to Latvia, Robert Krmelj, during his accreditation visit.

The State Secretary and the Ambassador agreed that Latvia and Slovenia enjoy a successful bilateral cooperation and good partnership in the European Union and NATO. Andrejs Pildegovičs expressed gratitude for the participation of Slovenian soldiers in the NATO multinational battlegroup in Latvia. Ambassador Krmelj on his part offered thanks for Latvia’s support to Slovenia during the refugee crisis. The Slovenian Ambassador invited the Latvian side to consider a possibility to intensify political dialogue by organizing political consultations.

Rober Krmelj is a career diplomat and he entered the Slovenian Foreign Service in 1991. He has been posted to Slovenia’s diplomatic missions in Spain, Denmark, Croatia, and headed the EU Enlargement Department, the EU Policies Department and the Neighbourhood Department at the Foreign Ministry. Since 2014, Robert Krmelj has been serving as the Ambassador of Slovenia to Poland and also represents the interests of his country in Estonia and Lithuania. Ambassador Krmelj resides in Warsaw.
