Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs meets with the new Swedish Ambassador to Latvia

On 11 September, the Foreign Minister of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the designate Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden, Annika Jagander, who was paying her introductory visit to the minister according to the tradition followed in the accreditation of ambassadors.

Edgars Rinkēvičs congratulated the Ambassador on her posting and acknowledged the excellent relations between Latvia and Sweden that cover a vast array of topics both in political and practical cooperation. Sweden is one of the major foreign trade partners to Latvia and the country making the largest foreign investments in Latvia’s economy. Sweden is contributing to projects in education, culture and the promotion of media excellence. The countries are working closely together not only on a bilateral basis but also in regional and international formats.

The Ambassador on her part presented her experience of working in the Swedish diplomatic service and her ideas for the further development of Latvian-Swedish relations. The Minister and the Ambassador agreed that the celebration of the centennial of Latvia’s statehood in 2018 opens broad opportunities for strengthening the links between the countries.
