On 17 July, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs will take part in the meeting of the European Union (EU) Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels to follow up on a discussion on the implementation of the EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy. The discussions aim at identifying further steps to put the strategy into practice to increase EU leverage and interests globally.
The Ministers will also share views on further EU action vis à vis North Korea in view of the tension in the Korean Peninsula and the tests of ballistic missiles. The Foreign Affairs Council will also discuss Libya and hold a meeting with the Director-General of the International Organisation for Migration, William Lacy Swing, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, to look into migration-related issues.
The meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council are held on a monthly basis and they are chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.
