On 13 July, the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrejs Pildegovičs, received a farewell visit from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, Francine Chainaye.
The State Secretary offered thanks to the Ambassador for her contribution to the promotion of bilateral relations and expressed support for strengthening the francophone environment in Latvia.
In the current context of security policy, Andrejs Pildegovičs thanked Belgium for its active participation in measures for reinforcing collective defence in the Baltic region, including NATO’s Air Policing Mission and enhanced forward presence in the Baltic States.
The State Secretary invited the Belgian side to contribute to, and get involved in Latvia’s centennial events in Belgium.
The Ambassador noted the significance of multilateral consultations between the Baltic and Benelux countries. This framework enables an in-depth discussion on current developments in the European Union, especially given that the Nordic countries have joined the format this year.
Francine Chainaye has been the Ambassador of Belgium to Latvia since 25 August 2015 and resides in Stockholm. She is a career diplomat and joined the Belgian Foreign Service in 1992.
