On 7-8 June, the Meeting of the Council of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) at Ministerial Level will convene in Paris. Latvia will be represented at the event by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
The main theme of the meeting is “Making globalisation work: Better lives for all”. The Ministers will discuss response to the negative consequences of globalisation, explore policies that could deliver a more inclusive globalisation, and share views on the OECD’s role in helping governments to tackle these challenges.
During the meeting, Edgars Rinkēvičs will sign the OECD Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent Base Erosion and Profit Shifting. The convention is to close loopholes in the current bilateral tax treaties and lessen the opportunity for tax avoidance.
The Foreign Minister will also have a bilateral meeting with Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary-General.
The ministerial level meeting of the OECD Council takes place once a year. In parallel with the Ministerial Council Meeting, international experts from business and academic circles, and civic society take part in high-level fora focussing on specific topics.
