On 17 May, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Vilmārs Heniņš, presented his Letter of Credence to the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor.
In a meeting following the official ceremony of accreditation, the Ambassador and the President discussed bilateral cooperation, making note of the friendly relations between Latvia and Slovenia. The parties evaluated positively the increasingly active political dialogue over the past year and expressed interest in sustaining cooperation. Ambassador Heniņš called for building more dynamic relations in business and culture.
The Ambassador and the President exchanged views on regional security issues. The Ambassador thanked Slovenia for its contribution to Baltic security by sending its troops to Latvia as part of the Canadian-led NATO battle group.
During his accreditation visit to Ljubljana, Ambassador Heniņš also met with the State Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Slovenia, Sanja Štiglic, and the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Slovenia, Luka Brezovec.
