The Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes an overview on the judicature of the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights in 2016

In order to provide an insight into the judicature of the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (the Court) and identify the current human rights issues, the Office of the Representative of Latvia before International Human Rights Organisations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prepared an overview of the judicature of the Grand Chamber of the Court in 2016. The overview presents a short introduction to each judgment and decision delivered by the Grand Chamber, gives information on the admissibility and merits of each complaint and damages awarded, as well as providing a brief comment on each case.

In 2016 the Grand Chamber of the Court delivered 27 judgments and decisions, which clearly highlighted two dominant themes – the right to freedom of expression and the asylum seekers’ rights – that also reflect the current developments in Europe.
