Edgars Rinkēvičs: During negotiations on the future of Europe, the European Economic Area countries should be taken into account

On 14 and 15 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, visited the Principality of Liechtenstein, where he met His Serene Highness the Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein Alois (Seine Durchlaucht Erbprinz Alois von und zu Liechtenstein), the Prime Minister Adrian Hasler and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Culture of Liechtenstein, Dr. Aurelia Frick.

Edgars Rinkēvičs highly appreciated the relationship between Latvia and Liechtenstein and called for the strengthening of bilateral economic cooperation by developing joint projects, especially in the manufacturing sector. The Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to Liechtenstein for its contribution to investments in Latvia through the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism. The Minister and the officials also discussed the cooperation between Latvia and Liechtenstein in the field of culture. Edgars Rinkēvičs invited Liechtenstein to strengthen those contacts in view of the approaching centenary of Latvia.

During the meetings, the issues of the United Kingdom leaving the EU and the future of Europe were discussed. Edgars Rinkēvičs emphasized that, during the negotiations on the future of Europe, the countries of the European Economic Area should be taken into account. The parties also discussed relations between the EU and Liechtenstein, including cooperation in the field of taxation.

During his stay in Liechtenstein, Edgars Rinkēvičs also visited one of the most successful companies in the country, the Hoval Corporation, which specializes in manufacturing heating and ventilation equipment.
