The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe (CoE), Nils Muižnieks, will be on an official visit to Latvia from 5 to 9 September.
A number of meetings have been planned for the Commissioner, including those with Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Minister of the Interior Rihards Kozlovskis, the Minister of Education and Science, Kārlis Šadurskis, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Raivis Kronbergs, officials from the Ministry of Welfare and the State Inspectorate for Protection of Children’s Rights, the Chairman of the Riga City Council, Nils Ušakovs, Prosecutor-General Ēriks Kalnmeiers, representatives from the parliamentary groups of the Saeima, and Ombudsman Juris Jansons.
Nils Muižnieks was elected Commissioner for Human Rights in 2012. The CoE Commissioner for Human Rights is responsible for promoting the awareness of human rights in compliance with standards established by the CoE. Under his mandate, the Commissioner is carrying out regular visits to all CoE member states.
