The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia does not recognize the legitimacy of the “parliamentary elections” that took place on 10 March in the Abkhazia region of Georgia and reiterates its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Foreign Ministry believes that holding such elections does not raise a possibility of achieving a peaceful solution to the conflict.

In order to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the conflict, discussions must be continued in the Geneva format with the involvement of all parties to the dispute. The European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia has a significant role in advancing security and stability in Georgia.
