Latvia's President Congratulates Re-elected German President
Latvia's President Valdis Zatlers has sent a letter of congratulations to Horst Köhler upon his re-election to the federal presidency of Germany.
In his letter, President Zatlers writes: "This is a special day for Germany, because it was 60 years ago that a new basic law was proclaimed, and foundations were laid for stable democracy. I am truly delighted that on this date, which is so important for Germany, I can heartily congratulate you upon your re-election to the presidency. I wish you much strength and success."
The President goes on to say that the relationship between Latvia and Germany has reached a high level of development in all areas, and there is close and trusting co-operation at the bilateral level, as well as within the EU and NATO. President Zatlers also expresses the belief that the outstanding relationship between the two countries will be developed further in future.
