The Presidents of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland having met with the President of Georgia at the Energy Summit in Kiev are welcoming the successful conduct of parliamentary elections in Georgia and reiterating their full support to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within internationally recognized borders.

The Presidents are expressing their deep concern about the escalation of tension in the conflict areas in Georgia before and during the course of parliamentary elections.

The Presidents of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland:

  • Note that the existing peacekeeping formats in Abkhazia and South Ossetia fall short of implementing their primary mandate assigned by the UN and the OSCE;
  • Agree in the need to hold a thorough and serious debate in the EU fora, including the forthcoming European Council meeting;
  • Ask their respective governments to request the EU Presidency and Troika to discuss the situation in the region and the peacekeeping activities conducted by the Russian Federation, at the forthcoming EU-Russia Summit in Khanty-Mansiysk this June.
