H.E. Mr. Riho Kruuv, Ambassador of Estonia to India, hosted a reception on the 8 of March in honour of 100 years since the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Estonia on 24 February 1918. H.E. Ms Urve Palo, Estonian Minister of Entrepreneurship and IT, as well as H.E. Mr. M.J.Akbar, Minister of State for External Affairs of India, attended the reception as chief guests.

During the reception Ambassador of Estonia solemnly presented a symbolic plaque of 100 to the Ambassador of Latvia H.E. Mr. Aivars Groza. Baltic States and Finland started a joint initiative in late 2017 of passing the plaque to the next State which celebrates its centenary. In December 2017 at the reception in honour of 100 years of independence of Finland the plaque was passed to Lithuania which subsequently passed it to Estonia.

Ambassador Aivars Groza felicitated Estonia on its Centenary and thanked the Ambassadors for this initiative. He stressed the importance of this gesture as it symbolically bonds Finland and the Baltic States, which proclaimed independence soon after each other, and strengthens not just their historic ties but also their cooperation today.
