An open door day was organised at the Embassy of Latvia on 16 May to introduce Indian students with the higher education possibilities in Latvia. H.E. Mr. Aivars Groza, Ambassador of Latvia, inaugurated the event by emphasising the excellent cooperation between the Indian students and the universities in Latvia. He welcomed Indian students’ interest in obtaining the higher education in Latvia, demonstrated by the growing number of students each year, and highlighted the potential for a further cooperation.
Representatives from the University of Latvia, Latvia University of Agriculture, Liepaja University and Turiba University took part in the event. They introduced the visitors with Latvia and the advantages of higher education possibilities in Latvia. They also shared information on the study programs, such as information technologies, engineering, business management and marketing. This was a recurrent event held at the Embassy. The previous meeting took place in October 2016.
This year representatives from Latvia also visited universities in the South of India, namely in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Coimbatore. One day earlier, on 15 May, Mr. Aivis Kļavinskis, Deputy Head of Mission, took part in a seminar of education agents in New Delhi where he presented the website “Study in Latvia” created particularly for foreign students. Representatives from universities in the Czech Republic and Poland also participated in the seminar. In the beginning of 2016 / 2017 academic year 750 students from India were studying in Latvia, an increase of 300 compared to the previous year. Majority of them studied engineering, management, medicine and information technologies.
