On 14-15 March, Ambassador Aivars Groza was on a working visit to Mumbai, where he held fruitful discussions with the local government and business community. During the meeting with Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Mr. Sumit Mullick, Ambassador Groza conveyed the strong interest of Latvia’s government to scale-up ties with India. The two sides agreed that there is a clear potential to institutionalize cooperation between Latvia and Maharashtra in such fields as transport & logistics, higher education, information technologies (IT) and tourism.
In his discussion with Mr. Ameet Nivsarkar, Vice President of Tata Consultancy Services, Ambassador Groza highlighted that Latvia’s IT sector and its innovative Startup ecosystem are well-positioned to contribute to the flagship initiative ‘Digital India’. The prominent role of this sector in the bilateral agenda was marked by the last year’s milestone visit to Latvia by India’s Minister of Electronics & IT and Law & Justice Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Ambassador also met with Dr. Renu Shome, Director of the Council of EU Chambers of Commerce in India, in order to work out a roadmap for expanding business cooperation, including a study visit of Indian companies to Latvia later this year. Respective meetings were effectively supported by the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Mumbai Capt. Avinash Batra.
On 15 March, Ambassador Groza opened a business seminar hosted by the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), where participants discussed already existing opportunities in Latvia as a distribution hub for Indian trade with EU, CIS and beyond.
