Latvian deaf and hearing youth group to perform in London

In the framework of the International Week of the Deaf, the Embassy of Latvia will be holding two concerts in London by the integrative group “Alias” from Latvia –

Thursday, 29 September at 6.30 pm at St.Sepulchre-without-Newgate Church in London (Holborn Viaduct, EC1A 2 DQ); and

Friday, 30 September at 1pm at the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (1 Exchange Square, EC2A 2JN).

Both concerts are free and open to the public, although advance registration is required for access to the EBRD (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

The programme will include popular and classical songs performed by voice and signing.

“Alias” consists of deaf and hearing youngsters performing regularly in Latvia and abroad. “Alias” aims to promote integration and solidarity between the deaf and the hearing through music.

The International Week of the Deaf is celebrated annually worldwide during the last full week of September and is about gathering together and becoming united.

The theme of  this year is “With Sign Language, I am Equal” and it celebrates 65 years since the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) was founded and 10 years since the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Both concerts are organised by the Latvian Embassy in the United Kingdom with the kind support of Riga City Council, The Latvian Welfare Fund and The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development.
