A residence permit is a document providing a foreigner the rights to reside in the Republic of Latvia for a definite period of time (a temporary residence permit) or permanently (a permanent residence permit).

A residence permit is necessary if a foreigner is willing to reside in the Republic of Latvia for a period of time exceeding 90 days within half a year counting from the first day of entrance.


Processing times and fees for residence permits if foreigner applies through the Embassy of Latvia in London:

during 6 weeks - £130 (£90 – state duty, £40 – consular duty)

during 4 weeks - £265 (£225 – state duty, £40 – consular duty)

during 3 weeks - £330 (£290 – state duty, £40 – consular duty)


There are special residence permit document processing fees for the spouses of the citizens of Latvia, non-citizens of Latvia and foreigners holding a permanent residence permit, their minor children and pupils and students of educational establishments or full time students:

during 6 weeks - £105 (£65 – state duty, £40 – consular duty)

during 4 weeks - £240 (£200 – state duty, £40 – consular duty)

during 3 weeks - £305 (£265 – state duty, £40 – consular duty)
