On the 9th of October, H.E Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia in Egypt Ms Iveta Šulca met H.E. Secretary General of the House of Representatives of Egypt Mr Ahmed Saad El-Din and H.E. Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for Parliamentarian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Ambassador Mr Yasser Ragab.
A wide range of subjects was discussed during both meetings, most notably the upcoming visit to Cairo by the Chairman of the Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group with Parliament of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia Mr Hosam Abu Meri. I. Šulca informed that the main objectives of the visit are the strengthening of the relations between the two parliaments, as well as the enhancement of cooperation in the in the field of education.
Latvia as EU member state offers a highly competitive higher education, and Latvian companies have developed progressive e-learning methods. “So far, there are 44 Egyptians studying in Latvia. Mainly they are studying engineering, tourism and social studies. We are looking forward to welcome more Egyptian students in our universities” Ambassador stressed. I. Šulca expressed her hope to start exchanging students and scholarships between the two countries and open Arab language studies in Latvia and Latvian language studies in Egypt. Establishing an Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group between the Egyptian and Latvia in the House of Representatives was also discussed. All sides agreed that it would be a cornerstone for sustainable relations between the two countries.
Ahmed Saad El-din emphasized that there are no obstacles to enhance the cooperation and the relations between Egypt and Latvia are excellent. Ambassador Yasser Ragab underlined the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt to facilitate the cooperation.
