Think tank forum "Enhancing Connectivity and Common Advancement" took place in Ningbo on the 29th of May, 2018. Its main aim was to promote an analytical discussion on the comparative advantages of Latvia within Chinese initiative of connecting Asia and Europe. The event was organized as a part of Latvia’s Statehood Centenary celebrations.
Latvia was represented by H.E. Ambassador M. Selga who gave an opening speech and Mr. A.Sprūds and Mrs. Una Berziņa-Čerenkova - scholars from the Latvian Institute of International Affairs who took part in the discussions. Officials from Ningbo City Municipality, academics and leaders of international trade associations participated from Chinese side. During the opening ceremony China (Ningbo) – Latvia Research Center was inaugurated. Research center will be hosted in Zhejiang Wanli University and will be tasked with increasing academic cooperation and exchange. It will be an important instrument in ensuring the presence of Latvia’s experts in discussions on Latvia – China and EU – China relations.
Forum’s participants were introduced to Latvia’s hundred years’ experience of building democratic state that positions Latvia as a trustworthy, competitive and open trade partner with a great potential for future cooperation. Speakers highlighted advantages of Latvia’s transit industry, especially in transcontinental connections and sea and ground transport.
This Forum was also organized in a framework of Latvia’s status as honorary country in this year’s China-Central and Eastern Europe Investment and Trade Convention in Ningbo. The status of honorary country offers additional opportunities to promote potential areas of cooperation with Latvia to Chinese state officials, enterprises, media, and participants of the convention.
